“Dinnertime” is the official Steam achievement name — “Catch dinner for the lady in the forest” — attached to the second island’s main quest chain. About three quarters of players unlock it, which makes it the last achievement most people get without a guide. Here’s the whole chain in one place.

The Setup

The quest giver is the young woman (the daughter) near where you land on Island 2. Her problem: she wants to surprise her father with a special dinner, her father won’t let her handle guns, and the dinner she has in mind is the “big yummy fish” swimming around the island — the Giant Piranha boss.

Talking to her activates the quest and puts a leech counter on screen. The counter is the number that matters: the reference run needed three, some players report five — collect until it fills.

The Chain, Step by Step

  1. Talk to the daughter NPC to activate the quest — the counter only appears after this.
  2. Walk the island and pick leeches off the ground. They’re small dark pickups, not a rod catch — full detail (and the not-spawning bug) in the leech guide.
  3. Hand them in; she converts them into leech bait.
  4. Buy a gun before casting — Pistol at minimum, the $150 Shotgun is the comfortable pick. The bait is consumed even on a failed attempt.
  5. Cast the leech bait to summon the Giant Piranha and its swarm of small piranhas.
  6. Clear the swarm when it piles on you (eat dead small piranhas to heal mid-fight), keep damage on the boss, and beat the white timer bar — if it empties, the boss escapes with your bait. Full fight tactics in the Giant Piranha boss guide.
  7. Pick up everything after the kill. Keep the distinct “Big Yummy Fish” quest item; the meat chunks are just food and money.
  8. Hand her the Big Yummy Fish → flash drive with the Island 3 coordinates, added to your map automatically.
  9. Optional: buy the Big Motor engine upgrade (about $230) — it speeds up the crossing and pops its own achievement.

Common Mistakes

  • Casting the bait before buying a gun. The NPC warns you directly, and the bait is consumed either way.
  • Handing in meat chunks. Only the Big Yummy Fish counts — same trophy-not-meat rule as every boss in the game.
  • Ignoring the white timer while farming the swarm; the boss escapes and the bait is gone.
  • You do not need to cook the fish. One guide site claims the fish must be grilled before hand-in — the reference run hands in the raw Big Yummy Fish and completes the quest, and the grill doesn’t even unlock until Island 3. Hand it in as-is.
  • Leeches not appearing at all is a separate launch-week issue — see Leeches Not Spawning.

What Happens Next

The flash drive puts Island 3 on your radar. The tropical island brings two new quest givers — the Grill Master (shark quest, unlocks the 1.5x cooking grill) and the Tourist, whose endangered fish quest starts the road to the Pufferfish boss. Route details in How to Unlock the Third Island.
